Clean Water
Clean water is at the heart of everything we do.
Community Health
Clean water is essential for community health. Protecting safe drinking water is critically important. People working and recreating in inland and coastal waters rely on clean water to stay healthy.
Healthy Ecosystems
Clean coastal waters support healthy ecosystems. Coastal reefs support healthy ocean ecosystems and are the backbone of healthy fisheries. The fisheries support the local economy through fishing and tourism. Fishing is both a business and a local food source.
Clean Water Practices
Clean water requires pollution reduction at every stage. It requires identifying and managing point sources (like overtaxed wastewater infrastructure) and non-point sources (like stormwater carrying pollutants from streets and fields). Clean water is also about managing sediment loads, stabilizing soils in place instead of eroding downstream. Restoring wetlands and mangroves that naturally filter water flowing downstream returns natural water cleaning ecosystem services. Sustainable agriculture practices that keep dangerous substances out of the watershed in the first place are a major part of clean water practices too.
All Water is Connected
Watersheds are connected, oceans are connected. In the end, all water on earth is connected. Protecting local watersheds immediately supports local communities, economies, and ecosystems. In the long-term, protecting water anywhere protects water everywhere.
